Common Technical Issues: HONDA VFR800 Interceptor / VFR800ABRAND: HONDAMODEL: VFR800 Interceptor / VFR800A YEARS: 02-07 CATEGORY: MOTORCYCLE TECHNICAL ISSUE DETAILS These Honda models all have a permanent magnet battery charging system, consisting of a stator with three output wires, which feed into a regulator/rectifier. This unit rectifies the AC into DC and regulates this DC to 14.5V to ensure proper battery charging. The output from the regulator/rectifier connects to the battery through a main fuse. Common faults in this system: 1) Regulator/rectifier failure. The OEM regulator/rectifier is a commonly failing part. T Also: the output from the stator is high putting a high thermal load on the regulator/rectifier. (Our new regulator/rectifier has been completely redesigned with a super heavy duty rectifier bridge.) 2) Bad regulator/rectifier main connector. Check the connector on the regulator/rectifier that plugs into the bike wiring harness. You may find melted plastic around the pins.. This will cause poor or no charging and will also often overheat the electronic circuits inside the regulator/rectifier. Our sales staff will be happy to help you with replacement connectors. 3) Bad connections inside the main fuse holder and the connections between regulator/rectifier and battery. Clean and check charging output again. 4) Stator failure. The stator fails regularly. Causes are age, heat and vibration. Test and replace when it tests bad. We recommend using the fault finding chart. This guide will help you diagnose the charging system quickly.
